Guard Your Awe
It is easy for us to miss what God is doing when we are focused on the wrong things. Here is an example. Four men brought their sick to Jesus, so He could heal him; however, when they reached the house where Jesus was ministering, they could not enter because it was crowded. As a result, they came up with a brilliant plan. They went up to the roof, uncovered part of it, and lowered their sick to the ground directly in front of Jesus. Hence, Jesus was so impressed by their determination and faith that He not only healed the sick but He also forgave him of his sins.
Many people witnessed this miracle; however, I will group everyone into two categories—group Awe and group Blah. Those in group Awe, according to the scripture were, “…Gripped with great wonder and awe, and they praise God, exclaiming, ‘We have seen amazing things today!’” (Lk 5:22, NLT) On the other hand, those in group Blah who also witnessed the miracle, said, “Who does he think he is? That’s blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!” (Luke 5:21) Hint, hint! Group Blah, you said it yourself, “Only God can forgive sins!” Isn’t that what Jesus just did? So doesn’t that make Him God?
Clearly, group Blah did not make the connection. Why? They were focused on the wrong thing—the wrong thing being their utter dislike for Jesus. Consequently, something that should have garnered awe from everyone present for this miracle was just blah to them.
Similarly, if we are focused on the wrong things, such as our hang-ups or dislikes, things that should leave us in awe will seem like blah. Therefore, let us guard our awe by focusing on the right things such as those mentioned in Philippians 4:8, “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise” (NLT).
AMEN, I want to always focus on the Awe. God bless
