Bring Out the Influencer in You

Are you an influencer? Long before society, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube personalities popularized the term, Jesus made mention of it, although in not so-specific terms. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). That’s it! This is the call to be an influencer. It is the call to “let your good deeds shine out for all to see so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father” (NLT).

An influencer is a person who inspires or guides the actions of others or a person, who can generate interest in something by posting about it on social media. Today, many influencers are on social media—Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and TikTok. They tell us how to dress, what to eat, how to style our hair, how to cook, and the list goes on, but where are the influencers who are living out loud Matthew 5:16? Where are the influencers who are “letting their good deeds shine out for all to see so everyone will praise your heavenly Father?” Where are you?

The mention of the word influencer may make some people nervous because they probably associate it with the younger generation. The mention of social media may even be a deterrence for many because they are not social media savvy. Well, being an influencer is not a generational concept. Every born-again believer is called to be an influencer, and as it relates to social media, you do not need it. What you need is to live out loud Matthew 5:16 at home, school, work, play, church, and just about everywhere you go and interact with people. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”  If you are not living out loud Matthew 5:16, I encourage you to begin, and by so doing, you will draw or influence others to Christ.
